    COFFERED CEILINGS INSTALLATION

    Coffered ceilings are an architectural component constructed to add depth and height to the room. Ceilings are often a blank canvas, making them an ideal area for adding architectural details to accent the home’s character. With a coffered ceiling you get an illustrious feeling of royalty when entering a room.

    Originating from Ancient Rome and gaining steam during the renaissance, coffered ceilings have come a long way in terms of installation materials and processes. Now a much more affordable and appealing option for homeowners, we can guarantee a total transformation of your space when you choose this accent style.

    WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A COFFERED CEILING?

    Historically coffered ceilings were designed to minimize the volume and weight of stone ceilings. They date from ancient Rome and have been used for centuries. We have come a long way to turning these practical support features into works of art. In addition to hiding any defects, flaws, or imperfections on the ceiling they also have sound dampening properties. Most of all these beautiful accents add a level of depth and sophistication to any space.

    THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN INSTALLING A COFFERED CEILING

    Although coffered ceilings make the room look more spacious, they are installed about a foot of the ceiling and thus there is a limit to what they can achieve. For this reason we would only recommend considering this installation if your ceilings are 9 feet or higher for the best results.

    TYPES OF COFFERED CEILINGS

    • Waffle ceiling (traditional) is the most popular coffered ceiling type;
    • Rustic coffer;
    • Geometric coffer;
    • Contemporary coffer/Coastal style.

    TYPES OF MATERIALS TO BUILD COFFERED CEILINGS FROM

    Currently wood, drywall, MDF (medium-density fiberboard) panels, polyurethane foam, and building boards are used the most. However, there is a difference in their installation and practicality; therefore, choosing a material for your coffer should be done with the help of an expert. That is where Trim Group comes in. With years of experience installing these magnificent accents, we can guide you to the perfect match for your home.

    If you want to learn more about the materials and their usage in moulding feel free to give us a call at any time: (416) 800-4271.

    INSTALLATION PROCESS

    MEASUREMENTS

    Our crucial first step is to take the ceiling measurements and to create the blueprint for the pattern you have in mind. We ensure that all the light fixtures, vents or any other items present on the ceiling are incorporated into the design. We then prepare all the materials we need, including: panels or boards for filling the coffer, framing lumber that goes directly into the ceiling, blocks that create the depth of the coffin, trim material, and decorative moulding used to complete the look of the design.

    STEP 1

    CUTTING

    This is an important step that will define the final look of the finish. It is also important to make precise cuts to avoid wasting materials and thus keeping costs low for our clients.

    STEP 2

    FRAMING

    Precise and levelled framing is imperative to having the coffered ceiling design come out perfect. As ceilings and walls are often out of square, this is where having a framing professional comes in handy.

    STEP 3

    TRIMMING

    This is where the final look of the coffered ceiling starts coming together. The framing we installed in the previous step now gets covered with the material you chose.

    STEP 4

    COMPLETION

    Finally, sanding is performed on the joints of the wrapping material. All of the room is concealed because the sand dust can get in into the tiniest holes. Project complete!

    STEP 5
